Cheshire Eveleigh, Attorney at Law
Cheshire Eveleigh is one of the premier family law attorneys in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a result of her reputation, she receives referrals for new cases from all over the country, especially from other members of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (“AAML”). The AAML was formed to recognize preeminent family law attorneys across the United States and was founded “[t]o provide leadership that promotes the highest degree of professionalism and excellence in the practice of family law.” Recently, Cheshire was invited to become a diplomate in the American College of Family Trial Lawyers (“ACFTL”). The ACFTL is a select group of the 100 top family law trial lawyers from across the United States. There are only 2 ACFTL diplomates in Virginia. Diplomates, all members of the AAML, are chosen based upon their recognized litigation skills and courtroom abilities.
In addition to being a member of the AAML, Cheshire has an AV Preeminent Rating – the highest rating available from Martindale-Hubbell, the leading independent attorney rating entity. An AV Rating signifies that the lawyer has reached the heights of professional excellence. Cheshire is consistently praised by her clients on AVVO.com where you can see testimonials from some of her former clients.
Cheshire’s family law practice includes divorces, prenuptial agreements, marital agreements, separation agreements, property and business valuations, equitable distribution (marital property division), spousal support, child support, child custody and visitation cases. As the daughter of a career military member, she is familiar with military issues including the impact that transfers of duty stations can have on families, such as in custody and visitation issues.
Cheshire also serves as the chair of the Virginia Family Law Coalition. The Coalition is a joint committee of the Virginia Bar Association and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. The primary purpose of the Coalition is to provide information to the General Assembly on family law legislation, whether that is in the form of preparing legislation for passage, providing background information to legislators to aid them in proposing legislation or testifying for or against pending legislation.
While practicing law over the past twenty-seven years, Cheshire has taught a variety of family law topics to other attorneys by lecturing at continuing legal education seminars. The topics have covered a wide range from civility and professionalism for lawyers to complex issues related to support cases.
